Super Bowl Winner Opens Training Facility In La Salle

A man who played in six Super Bowls is opening a new business in La Salle.

Grand opening of Don Beebe’s House of Speed is this evening on Gunia Drive on the north end of La Salle.  Beebe played in the NFL for nine years, went to six Super Bowls, winning one with the Green Bay Packers.  He was known for his speed and now teaches speed to athletes of all ages. Beebe started the House of Speed in 1998 and says he wants to reach athletes outside of Chicago and the suburbs.

The grand opening starts at 5:30 with a demo training from Beebe followed by a question and answer session and a book signing.  There’s no cost to attend.

Ottawa Man Jumps To His Death

A 25-year olds death in Ottawa has been officially ruled a suicide.

Ottawa Police got a call New Year’s Eve morning from a man who said he was going to jump from Veteran’s Bridge.  By time officers arrived, 25-year old Ryan Poundstone had already jumped, leaving behind his sweatshirt on the sidewalk of the bridge.

Ottawa River Rescue pulled Poundstone from the Illinois River.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Second Escaped Chicago Inmate Gets Caught

CHICAGO (AP) – an escaped bank robber was disguised as an old man and led officers on a short foot chase before he was captured in Palos Hills.

Kenneth Conley was one of two bank robbers who staged a daring escape from a downtown Chicago high-rise federal jail last month. Palos Hills Deputy Chief James Boie (BOY’) says Conley was wearing a beret and glasses and walking with a limp when officers approached him Friday. Boie says Conley pushed one of the officers and led them on a foot chase.

He says Conley tried to break into an apartment, but was caught and had a BB gun in his possession.

State Crackdown On Disability Parking

CHICAGO (AP) – The Illinois secretary of state office says investigators issued 166 citations worth more than $70,000 during the holiday season in a crackdown on illegal use of disability parking spaces.

Secretary of State Jesse White’s office started the increased enforcement on the day after Thanksgiving and continued throughout the holiday shopping season. His office says 65 people received tickets for improper use of a disability parking space. Another 101 were cited with misuse of a disability parking placard or using a fraudulent placard.

The program was enforced at more than 65 cities statewide.
