Proof that every vote counts, two races in Bureau County are still considered too close to call.
In District 15 on the county board, Democrat Mike Maynard had just three more votes than Republican challenger Bud Wilkinson after last Tuesday’s election. And for county clerk, Republican Mary Romanelli Dremann has 97 more votes than Democrat Dawn Reglin.
Since there are absentee ballots still not counted, a winner won’t be official until November 20th.

Fire officials in Indianapolis are investigating the cause of massive explosion last night. The blast sparked a huge fire that’s damaged homes in a two-block radius. About three dozen homes were damaged or destroyed and two people were killed. Firefighters have been going through burned and damaged homes one by one after putting out the fire that started after the explosion at about 11 p.m. Saturday. Deputy Fire Chief Kenny Bacon also says seven people were taken to a hospital with injuries. The victims’ names have not yet been released.

Nine hundred people visited booths and saw tasty food prepared Saturday at Miller Media’s “Taste of Home” cooking show at LP High School. 99-3 WAJK’s Jon Shap and Jennifer Nagle hosted a 2 hour cooking presentation with “Taste of Home” chef Karen Davis. The school hallway was filled with 36 vendors offering everything from cabinets to candles to crafts and jewelry. Miller Media includes AM 1220 WLPO, 99-3 WAJK, 96-5 The Wolf, News Tribune and Illinois and Indiana Agri-News.

Celebrity bartenders collected 2-hundred eighty dollars for veterans Saturday night during a dance at the LaSalle VFW. “Cowboy” from 96-5 the WOLF was among the bartenders working for tips from a crowd of one hundred people. The effort to support area veterans continues today at the Shell Station on Shooting Park Road. Hot dogs and beverages will be served Noon – 2 while employees collect donations from the public. Items needed for veterans include non-scented hand lotion, shampoo, aftershave and perhaps, a deck of cards. A list is posted in the store and, if you can stop by with an item today…you can anytime into early December.

Northern Illinois University has placed its police chief on administrative leave and is firing another officer over the department’s handling of a sexual assault case. A county judge found a week ago that an NIU police investigator intentionally withheld evidence in the case of a former NIU police officer accused of sexually assaulting a student at the school. The university announced yesterday that police chief Donald Grady was placed on administrative leave pending charges.

At least two people are dead and about 200 people have been forced from their homes after a deafening explosion in an Indianapolis neighborhood. Authorities say two homes were leveled and others set ablaze. Authorities searched house-to-house overnight. They have not determined what caused the blast.

Veterans are being honored at Veterans Park in Peru and War Memorial Park in Ladd this morning. Lineup at Veterans Park is 10:45 and services at 11. In Ladd, the service will be at 10:50am. Granville is hosting a Veterans Day parade at 3 with a flag raising and chili supper for veterans. Rod Thorson will broadcast from Granville at 2 on AM 1220 WLPO and be in the parade.

Want to come watch others playing with toys? Mendota FFA club is hosting a toy show in the high school today (Sunday) from 9 – 3 PM.An antique tractor show is also planned. The event is sponsored also by the alumni of the Mendota FFA club.
