Peru hires ad company for economic development website

Posted by wlpo on September 24, 2012

Go online to the City of Peru’s website and you can find out when your garbage will be picked up and when the municipal band is next performing.  It’s a helpful site if you live in Peru, but not if you’re wanting to develop or open a business.
A site designed especially for Peru economic development is coming soon.  Designed by MCS Advertising with the help of Economic Director Bob Vickery, it will list available buildings and lots.
With the contract for the site, the company would also send emails several times a year to developers, provide an e-book of the city, and maintain the site.  The site and services will cost them $1000 per month.
The city council Monday night agreed to a three-year deal.  Alderman Sherry Mayszak was against because she thought they could have chosen a less expensive proposal.  Alderman Rodney Perez voted present because he didn’t know enough about it.
A contract still needs to be signed.

The work will begin at 7am Wednesday and should be over by 12pm.  If you decide to take that way, be careful and watch out for flaggers.

More Rita Crundwell Horses Auctioned Off

Posted by wlpo on September 24, 2012

DIXON, Ill. (AP) – One horse owned by indicted former Dixon Comptroller Rita Crundwell brought in $775,000 at an auction of her property.

An earlier online auction brought in $1.64 million for 80 of Crundwell’s horses. On Sunday, more than 2,000 bidders gathered at her northern Illinois ranch as auctioneers sold off 146 more horses and related items for about $2.4 million. The highest bid was for Crundwell’s 2004 world champion stallion “Good I Will Be.”

Crundwell is accused of misappropriating more than $53 million from Dixon to help support a lavish lifestyle and her nationally renowned horse breeding operation. She’s pleaded not guilty to a federal charge and also faces state charges.

If Crundwell is convicted, Dixon will get money from the sale. If she’s acquitted, the profits return to her.
