Contamination Cleanup Fight Continues In DePue

People wanting Lake DePue cleaned up of toxic waste are trying to push the issue online.

A new website about the ongoing contamination cleanup delay at the lake has popped up called “”.  One the site, you can catch up on the history of contamination at the lake caused by Exxon Mobil and Viacom.  You can also take a virtual tour of contaminated sites and sign a petition to get the contamination cleaned up.

Village President Eric Bryant said this week the latest cleanup proposals aren’t acceptable.  Bryant and the village have been waiting for something to be done since the 90s.

No Pension Deal

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Gov. Pat Quinn says he’s very disappointed in Illinois legislators, particularly Republicans, for not taking action on the state’s pension problem.

Illinois lawmakers adjourned a special session Friday without making any progress on the state’s massive pension crisis. Quinn says legislators need to show some “political fortitude.”

The democratic governor says he isn’t giving up on overhauling the pension system and its fast-growing costs.He says he will build support with taxpayers and voters so they will put pressure on lawmakers to take action. Quinn wouldn’t provide details of the grassroots campaign he promised to organize.

Pension legislation has been stalled since the end of May.
