Road work will have a stretch of the Somonauk Blacktop closed

If the Somonauk Blacktop is part of your drive, you may have to go a little out of your way next week.  A half a mile of the Somonauk Blacktop, also known as County Highway 2, will be closed Monday through Friday for road work.

Crews will be working to re-align the intersection with Route 52.  Detours won’t be posted.

Challange against Illinois Sand continues in court

People trying to mine sand northeast of Utica got a boost this week.

Illinois Sand, a division of Illinois Cement wants to mine over 500 acres near the Osage Curves.  However over 60 people in rural Utica oppose them and are trying to block the development in court.  In response, the sand company wants the court to throw out the people’s challenge.

Thursday, Circuit Judge Eugene Daugherity didn’t throw out the people’s challenge but he did keep in play Illinois Sands’ chance to have the landowners challenged tossed out.

Spring Valley and Peru host car shows and cruises

It’ll be a perfect evening for a car cruise.  The 10th annual Spring Valley Fire Department Crusin’ The Valley is Saturday in downtown Spring Valley.

Registration is from 1-4pm with the cruise from 1-7pm.  You’ll find cars, family activities and a beer garden.

You’ll find more cars Sunday at the 10th Annual Benefit Car Show.  The fundraiser for the Peru Volunteer Ambulance Service is in the old Westclox parking lot on Route 6 west of the ambulance building.  Registration is from 8am – Noon.
