Running race, sidewalk sales and “Taste” continue in Ottawa

Ottawa Riverfest gives you plenty of reasons to go out this weekend.  The carnival and Taste of Ottawa continues through Sunday on the north shore of the Illinois River.

Activities being early Saturday morning with the Easter Seals 5K Run/ Walk for the Kids.  You’ll find a book sale and farmer’s market at and around Washington Park.  Many businesses will be participating in the sidewalk sales from 10am until 4pm.

Lacon man dies after motorcycle crash

A late night motorcycle ride was the last for a man from Lacon.  A crash early Friday morning east of Henry at the Sandy Creek Bridge killed 36 year old Edward McAbee.

The Marshall County’s Sheriff’s office says McAbee lost control on the bridge and hit the guardrail and a sign.  He died during the flight to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  The crash is being investigated.

Woman hit power pole while trying to miss a deer

Though it might seem weird, you don’t swerve to miss an animal when you’re driving.  A woman from Ottawa says she’s swerved to miss a deer early Thursday morning and ended up crashing into a power pole.

It happened on North 31 road north of Utica.  Police say Jenny Carroll had three children in the car when it happened.  Nobody was hurt.

Aggravated battery charges after a child was injured

An injured child has lead to felony charges against a man in Ottawa.  Chamarr Pennywell was arrested Thursday  after police began investigating after a child had to be taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center Tuesday.

Pennywell has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery and is being held in the La Salle County Jail with his bond set at $100,000.

Special Olympics fundraiser sucessful

A set of Blackhawks tickets and lawn furniture for your kids were some of the items sold during an auction that raised money for the local chapter of the Special Olympics.

More than $40,000 was raised last night at the Special Olympics’ Gold Medal Event Dinner and Auction.

An estimated 200 people were there.  It was sponsored by the Miller Group Charitable Trust.

The Starved Rock Chapter of the Special Olympics includes more than 500 athletes.  Money from this event will pay for their programs.
