Pilot uninjured after emergency landing near Peru

Posted by wlpo on July 15, 2012

A man from Tennessee in an experimental plane made an emergency landing in a cornfield about a mile south of the runway at IV regional airport in Peru. It happened minutes before 12:30 Sunday..

Scott Gagel and Mark Carter were flying in from Louisville, Kentucky and were behind the plane when it landed. Carter says it remained intact and didn’t catch on fire.

Police and firefighters were able to reach the pilot using an ATV. He wasn’t hurt but appeared upset and dedclined to comment.

The Illinois State Police is handling the report since it happened just outside of Peru’s city limits. Chuck Studer with the airport doesn’t think the FAA will investigate.
