Senate Leaders Speak At Local Chamber Event

Posted by wlpo on June 13, 2012

“A very good year”, and “moving ball in right direction” is how two top lawmakers in Springfield describe the recently finished session.  If you work in education, public safety or human services you may disagree.

Senate President John Cullerton and Senate minority leader Christine Radogno were featured speakers at yesterday’s Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce legislative luncheon.  Both talked about making tough cuts in education, public safety and human services in order to pass a bi-partisan, balanced budget. Cullerton says the budget awaiting the governor’s approval has 1.4 billion dollars in cuts.

Radogno gave her party a lot of credit for a balanced budget saying they were able to stop the governor’s plans to borrow more money.  She called Medicaid reform a bi-partisan success story.

Cullerton and Radogno sounded optimistic that they could reach a pension resolution as well very soon.
