Posted by wlpo on June 9, 2012

CHICAGO (AP) – Chicago’s 25,500 public school teachers are considering authorizing what could be their first strike in a
quarter of a century.

As the voting continued Friday, teachers said they were confident enough of them would vote to authorize union leaders call a strike if they feel it’s necessary. Teachers are angry about proposals they say would dramatically increase their workday but only minimally increase their pay.

They are looking for a pay increase of over 20 percent while board members have talked about 2 percent.

One man was injured another rescued in an early morning apartment fire in Peru.

Fire Chief Jeff King says his department was called out to a two-story home on fire in the 300 block of Cross Street.  The home has been turned into five different apartments.

King says the fire is accidental.  He says it started with a pan of grease that got out of control and started the top two apartments on fire.
