Hope For Dwight Correctional Center

Posted by wlpo on May 30, 2012

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Illinois prisons at Tamms and Dwight would stay open in at least one version of the state budget
circulating in Springfield.

Rep. Luis Arroyo says Tamms would be retooled and no longer used as a “super-maximum” security lockup for troublesome and violent inmates. Arroyo told The Associated  Press there’s about $58 million to keep Dwight and Tamms open.

Around 400 jobs are at stake with the Dwight women’s prison. An estimated 70 workers commute to Dwight from La Salle County.
