Students to tour new La Salle wastewater plant

Posted by wlpo on April 16, 2012

Spring is the season for school field trips.  Remember the time you visited the wastewater treatment plant?  No?

Area junior high students will get a close-up view of the new La Salle wastewater treatment plant Friday.  Members of the Little Vermilion River Watershed Committee and people from the Public Works Department will explain to students how the plant takes in sewage and discharges clean water into the Little Vermilion River.

Sam McNeilly is the Superintendent of Public Works.  He says after several months of delays, the plant began processing waste a couple of weeks ago.

He says the tours are part of celebrating Earth Day.  “Green” technology was included when the plant was developed.

Students visiting the plant will be from Lincoln Junior High, Waltham Schools, Dimmick School, Trinity Catholic Academy and St. Bede Academy.
