While it’s quiet here…it’s anything but in Seneca. According to Fire Chief Jerry Sears, personnel were called to the scene of a one car fatal three miles north and about two miles West of Seneca at 3:15am. A man in his mid-20’s, according to Sears, was driving a vehicle that hit a field entrance on North 30th road coming to rest on its passenger door forty feet inside a field. We’re awaiting word from the Coroner’s office on the man’s identity. About 7:30am, firemen were callled north of town to “Woodsmoke Ranch” on East 28th road. Sears said a man walking a dog heard and saw a fuel tank next to a park model trailer explode. The resulting fire destroyed that trailer, its deck and shed worth perhaps 60-thousand dollars. One trailer flanking it received about 20-thousand dollars damage and one on the opposite side had melted vinyl. The fire started in the middle trailer’s kitchen. Marseilles assisted twenty men at the scene. Firemen returned to the station at 10:30, but, thirty minutes later, went to a residential area on the East side of Seneca. Fire Chief Sear’s said a cut tree pushed some power lines to the ground causing sparking. Firemen were at the scene until a utility company shut off the power.
