More Sand Mine Hearings In La Salle County?

Posted by wlpo on February 28, 2012

What happens with the gaping hole once a sand mine runs dry?  La Salle County board members will talk about it tomorrow.

The county’s Development Committee will go over reclamation projects from Mississippi Sand, LLC and Illinois Sand Company.  Now that the companies have filed mining applications with the state, the county has 45 days to request a hearing on land reclamation plans of the two projects.

During hearings in last month, Mississippi Sand developers said they’d offer their land to Starved Rock State Park.  If they didn’t want it, they could fill the pit in with water.

Developers with Illinois Sand weren’t really clear what their reclamation plans are for the proposed pit near the Osage curves between Utica and Ottawa.
