New State Law Affects La Salle Veterans Home

Posted by wlpo on December 29, 2011

Beds at the La Salle Veteran’s Home could be filled by non-veterans under a new state law.

Both the House and Senate unanimously passed a bill that says any natural parent or spouse of a veteran killed in the line of duty that has lived in Illinois for at least a year before applying to a veteran’s home can be admitted if there are vacant beds. These survivors are called Gold Star Families.

The bill does say that veterans will still get priority if there are vacancies.
