Spring Valley snow routes

No one knows how much snow is coming this winter, but cars parked on Spring Valley’s posted snow routes may be towed. Police Chief Kevin Sangston says some of the snow routes are the St. Paul street business district, areas north of Seventh street and west of John Mitchell avenue, all subdivisions and both Richards street and Strong avenue between Dakota street and JFK school. Besides towing, violators may also be ticketed.

Engle Lane Theatre new season

After holding the line for eight years, ticket prices for Engle Lane Theatre productions in Streator increased slightly. That according to Kathy Missel, President of the Community Players of Streator. Season ticket prices for six shows is sixty dollars. Shows will be every month starting in May with the world’s longest running musical “The Fantasticks”. Other planned shows include “Hairspray”, “Fiddler on the Roof, Jr.” and “You Can’t Take it With You”. Tickets are on sale now. Information is available on their Facebook page or their website englelane dot org.

IVCC ladies East coast update

Besides playing basketall in a Maryland tourney, IVCC ladies basketball team is seeing the sites. According to the IVCC website. The Lady Eagles are participating in the Prince George Basketball tourney Saturday and Sunday. But, prior to that, on Friday, the girls visited the White House and laid a wreath at the “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier”. The website says the trip, which the Eagles raised money for, will have them visit D.C. Cupcakes to enjoy cupcakes with the IVCC logo. The girls lost to Guilford Saturday 55 – 49. They beat Lenore today 67 – 53.

Johnikka Nash had 21 points.

speeding at 114 mph.

If you saw someone travel at 114mph., you likely wonder what their hurry was. No doubt, Dekalb County Sheriff’s deputies wondered as well. They stopped 28-year old Shannon Sharp of Leland about 3pm Saturday on Route 23 in lower Dekalb County. Sharp was handed tickets for speeding at over double the posted limit and with reckless driving. He was being held Saturday pending bond.

Willie’s ring found

Police say the stolen 1985 Super Bowl ring of Chicago Bears wide receiver Willie Gault has been recovered from adowntown Los Angeles jewelry store. Los Angeles police said yesterday that Gault’s ring from the Bears’ victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX along with a wedding ring and five stolen watches were found Thursday. The jewelry was stolen in a November 8th home burglary.

baby shot in small town

A neighbor says she saw an Illinois woman shoot at her 10-month-old baby before apparently turning the gun onherself. Authorities say 30-year-old Sara McMeen is one of five people found dead Friday at a home in Emington, a town of about 100 people located 80 miles southwest of Chicago. A man and three children, including a baby, also died in what the sheriff says was a murder-suicide. Neighbor Annelise Fiedler told The Associated Press that she ran outside to her backyard after hearing shots. She says she saw McMeen in the next yard over hovering over her baby and asked if everything was alright. Fiedler says McMeen looked at her and said, “No, everything is not alright.” Fiedler says McMeen then fired a shot at the infant.

Alleged intoxication and texting

An unusual combination…and it resulted in a Peru man’s car striking another Saturday evening. 48-year old Mitchell Lippert was charged with DUI and texting while driving by Peru police. He received additional tickets for DUI – .08 or higher and failure to give information after striking another vehicle. He posted his driver’s license and received an I-Bond

IVAR open house

Illinois Valley Animal Rescue (IVAR) is throwing open the doors of its facility in north LaSalle today. Between 1 and 3pm, you’re invited to come view the dogs and cats at the shelter. Donations of cleaning supplies, towels and blankets are welcome.
