local Wreaths across America

Posted by wlpo on December 11, 2011

Three hundred wreaths were laid at veterans’ graves Saturday, but organizer Toni Lucas wants to do better next year. Lucas moved to LaSalle from Kentucky and started the local chapter of “Wreaths across America”. After a ceremony Saturday at the Veterans Home in LaSalle – attended by representatives of all military branches….festivities moved to Forest Lawn Memory Gardens for the laying of wreaths. The stands for the wreaths were provided by LP High School students. Lucas says fundraising is underway for next year. She says there are many more graves that have yet to receive a Christmas wreath. Lucas estimates a cost of $11,000 dollars to cover all veterans graves at Forest Lawn…and, of course, there are other cemeteries in the area as well. Lucas was quite pleased with the turnout Saturday at both locations.
