Pets Killed In Oglesby Fire

A dog and cat were killed by fire in Oglesby.

The fire heavily damaged a one-story home Friday night at 362 West Porter Street. Dale Martyn and his wife were home but able to escape the blaze unharmed.

The fire’s cause is thought to be electrical. Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours.

Arrest Made In Walmart Purse Theft That Was Caught On Tape

Police think they’ve caught the man caught on surveillance stealing a purse out of the Peru Walmart parking lot.

Bradley Burkhart of Mendota is charged with theft of misplaced property. Officials think Burkhart got out of his truck last weekend and took a purse left behind in a shopping cart. The purse’s owner, a woman from Bureau County realized what she did but came back outside to see the purse was gone.

Burkhart was released with a court date.
