An explosion has flattened one home in Chicago, burned others and sent two people to the hospital with serious burns. Chicago fire officials say the explosion flattened a home in the city’s West Lawn neighborhood before 7 a.m. Sunday. Two people in the home were injured. Chicago police say they were woman in her 50s and a man in his 40s. Chicago Fire Department spokesman Will Knight says 250 firefighters and paramedics responded to the area. Four other homes were burned, but all the people in them got out safely. The fire was out by about 8 a.m. Knight says one firefighter went to a hospital with a minor hand injury. He says the fire department, Peoples Gas and ComEd are investigating the explosion.

Wind advisory today

Wind gusts today could dislodge or move something in your yard unless it’s secured. The National Weather Service says winds will occasionally reach 50mph. as a cold front approaches the area. Minor property damage could result with these higher bursts and it may make higher profile vehicles difficult to control on the road. The wind advisory now in effect will expire at 6 tonite.

Vendor fair for charity

A vendor fair Saturday at the Peru Eagles lodge raised $1600 for the Childrens Miracle Network. The charity raises money for one hundred seventy hospitals in the U.S. who will treat children for asthma, broken bones, birth defects and cancer.

Drugs and cash

The war on drugs sometimes measured in pounds, but this time in ounces. A 26-year old Pemberton, New Jersey man was stopped at Route 251 and I-80 about 1am Friday. The K-9 unit appeared to smell drugs. A search revealed 1.2 grams of suspected cocaine and $40-thousand dollars in cash. Miguel Castellano-Mosedo was charged with possession of cocaine. His money and car may go to LaSalle county authorities pending court proceedings in Ottawa.
