Big Pot Bust In Peru

A California girl will be in an Ottawa courtroom before she can go back home.

Peru Police say they stopped Linda Kelley of Fresno, California last night on I-80 for a minor traffic issue.  A K-9 was called in and led police to the woman’s luggage.  Investigators say they found 54 pounds of marijuana in the luggage.  She was arrested for possession with the intent to deliver over 5,000 grams of cannabis.

Kelley was taken to the county jail.

Heating Assistance Available For Needy

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Enrollment for winter heating assistance from the state of Illinois begins Nov. 1.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is a state and federally funded initiative that pays heating bills for low-income families. Clients have a choice of programs to enroll in this year that can be explained when they apply.

A single person can qualify in the energy assistance program with a monthly income of up to $1,361. A family of four can earn up to $2,794. Benefits are paid directly to utility companies unless heating costs are included in rent.

Applications locally are processed by Tri-County Opportunities  Council in Dixon.
