Bullet Found At Area High School

There were some tense moments at Marquette Academy.

Ottawa Police were called to the high school Tuesday afternoon after a janitor found a bullet in a hallway.  Officials put the school on lockdown as they searched and made sure the building was safe.

Ottawa Police Chief Brian Zeilmann says the incident remains under investigation.

IVCC celebrates Halloween with a “haunted” theatre program

Not feeling the Halloween spirit yet?  The theater department at Illinois Valley Community College might be able to help.

“The Haunted Halloween Show” features music, dance and tales of terror.  It opens Friday, October 28, with a performance at 8 p.m. and continues through the weekend with matinee performances at Cultural Centre.

It’s $5 for a ticket or free with an IVCC ID.

La Salle Fire Chief says new ambulance service is making money

When you see an ambulance go whizzing by in La Salle, chances are good it’s part of the La Salle Fire Department’s.  La Salle launched their own ambulance service in March.  Financially speaking, Fire Chief Andy Bacidore says it’s been making money.

Bacidore says if revenues stay as they have been for the past three months they’ll make the $48,000 they used to pay to the Peru Volunteer Ambulance Service.

Student Carries Gun Onto Local School Bus

An investigation continues after a Waltham Elementary student brought a pellet gun onto a school bus and it went off.

A boy is suspended after the gun went off last week and hit a girl in her leg.  Her injury is considered minor.

Superintendent Robert Abney says it was an isolated incident and the school board will discuss the boy’s future at their meeting Wednesday night.

The La Salle County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

Oglesby Cracking Down On Electric Charges

Freebies are becoming a thing of the past in the city of Oglesby.

The Oglesby City Council put on a file a new electric department fee schedule charging for installing or moving power lines and poles for new subdivisions and businesses.  Currently, the city will do this at its own expense.

The new fees for contractors will be six dollars a foot for installing wires and over a thousand dollars for installing or moving power poles.
