Sewer near downtown La Salle in need of emergency work

The sewer at Canal and Marquette Streets in La Salle has almost collapsed.  The city is bringing a contractor in to repair it before it does.

City Engineer Mike Furlan says he’s talked to someone who might be able to fix it this week.  He described the sewer as having a steel plate over it that is bowing.  Not to far away on Canal the sewer has collapsed.

Because they’re calling it an emergency, the job isn’t being put out for bids.
