Posted by wlpo on October 11, 2011

If you’ve been following the story about the bicyclist that was killed after being hit by a grain truck Tuesday morning, investigators say he was 76 year old Dr. John Harbeck of Ottawa.

Police says Harbeck, a retired dentist, was riding with three other men when he and 79 year old Frank Piogott of Sheridan were hit.  Harbeck was pronounced dead at the scene while Piogott was taken to Ottawa Regional Hospital.  His condition wasn’t released.  74 year old Gary Kirkpatrick and 80 year old Phillip Gustin of Ottawa were not injured.

It happened on La Salle County Highway 42, south of the Wallace-Waltham blacktop.

Police haven’t said if the man driving the grain truck, Everett Olmstead of Earville would be ticketed.
