Area School Administrator Wants To Be Senator

Posted by wlpo on October 11, 2011

Is being a school superintendent a good way to learn politics?

Streator Elementary School Superintendent Christine Benson thinks so as she will run for the 38th District Senate seat currently held by Republican Sue Rezin.  Benson will run as a democrat.

She made her plans to seek office public Sunday while campaigning at Burgoo in Utica.  Before going to Streator, Benson was superintendent of Ottawa elementary schools.

Two other democrats, La Salle County Board member Tom Gainiere of Ottawa and Putnam County Treasurer Kevin Kunkel of Granville are also running for the seat.  So far, no one is opposing Rezin on the republican side.
