Three boys accused of starting fires in Peru

Posted by wlpo on October 9, 2011

Maybe the warm weather is having an effect on the local kids.  A week after two boys were arrested for the hold up of the Dollar General Store in La Salle, three preteens were arrested in Peru, accused of starting two fires.

Two 12 year old boys and one 11 year old boy all from Peru were picked up Friday night after firefighters were called to two fires that day.  The first was at the Circuit Breaker School, formerly Roosevelt School.  There the boys are accused of starting the shed on fire, destroying it and everything inside.  The building was also damaged.

The second fire was that evening at Sunset Park where there was extensive damage to the playground equipment.

The boys were released to their parents but charges were referred to the La Salle States Attorney’s office.

Things Returning To Normal In Tiskilwa

Posted by wlpo on October 9, 2011

Everyone in Tiskilwa is being allowed to return to their homes after a train derailment that caused an evacuation.

A freight train loaded with ethanol crashed and exploded near the village’s northeast side early Friday. Witnesses say the
resulting explosions shook them awake before dawn and sent bright orange flames and plumes of smoke into the sky.

National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Tim Depaepe said there were no visible flames from the crash Saturday. But he said smoldering may force officials to reissue an evacuation order.

There are no injuries reported. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
