Police looking for man who robbed La Salle Dollar General

A scary scene at the Dollar General in downtown La Salle as the store was held up by a man wearing a ski mask.  Police are looking for the man that went into the store around 8pm Friday.

Somebody called 9-1-1 but the man was able to get away on foot with cash.  He’s described as having a dark complexion, being 5ft 7inches, and weighing 150 pounds.  He was wearing a ski mask, dark hooded sweatshirt, and dark jean shorts.  La Salle and neighboring departments used dogs to search the area but came up short.

Water break affecting homes in Peru

Turn on the facet and nothing comes out- that’s a scene many people have woken up to in Peru this morning.

A large water main break at 9^th and Orleans is affecting a number of homes.  Crews are working on it.

Crash leads to power outaged and possibly fire

It was a really dark night for the far east side of La Salle.  Power was knocked out to more than 100 homes after a man crashed into a utility pole just before 1am Saturday.

It happened at Route 6 and Richard Hallett Road.  David Shrimplin of Spring Valley was taken to a near by hospital for injuries.  He was also given tickets for not slowing down to avoid a crash and improper lane usage.

The crash is though to be what started a fire that Utica Firefighter busy throughout the morning.

Area churches to walk to end hunger

With the trees turning, it’s not a bad time for a walk along the I and M Canal.  The tow path from Lock 14 to Split and Rock and back is the route for this year’s CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday.

It’s a fundraiser to end worldwide hunger and the Illinois Valley Food Pantry.  It’s sponsored by the Zion United Church of Christ in Peru and Trinity United Church of Christ of La Salle”.  Registration is at 12:30pm with the walk at 1pm.
