No School Supply Tax Break

Posted by wlpo on August 15, 2011

Unpaid bills by the state have you paying more money this year for school supplies.

At this time last year, parents were getting a 5% sales tax waived on school supplies as part of a “sales tax holiday”.  Since Illinois has over eight billion dollars in unpaid bills, lawmakers didn’t bring the tax holiday back this year.

State Representative Frank Mautino was among those against the tax holiday.  He said last year’s tax holiday meant a 50 to 60 million dollar tax loss to state government.
