President Plans Trip Near Bureau County

Posted by wlpo on August 13, 2011

Henry County locals say President Barack Obama can count on getting a welcome reception next week when he visits.

Obama will be in Atkinson and Alpha next Wednesday as part of a three-day, campaign-style Midwest bus tour that will also take him to Iowa and Minnesota. While he’s in the Republican-leaning county, Obama is likely to hear about jobs, the struggling housing market, the nation’s debt and America’s nagging economic problems.

He’ll hear good news, too. Atkinson village board President August Junior says the community was thrilled to get stimulus money that has helped build a new fire station and resurfaced a main road.
