Streator Is Hottest Spot In Illinois

Posted by wlpo on August 5, 2011

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) – If you thought it was really hot in Streator last month, the state has data to back it up.

The Illinois State Water Survey says it was a month of extremes with hot weather and heavy rains. The hottest July temperature was 105 degrees in Streator on July 25th. At least 38 places in Illinois hit 100 degrees or more during July.
Rain in Illinois didn’t show restraint either.

The water survey says the heaviest rain was in Galena. One site there reported a monthly total of more than 19 inches of rain. The middle part of the state was dry with commonly about 1 to 2 inches.
