Vickery announces bid for LC Circuit Clerk

A man you might recognize from his years with the NewsTribune and his seat on the La Salle County Board says he would like to be the Circuit Clerk.

Republican Bob Vickrey of Peru announced today he’s running for the seat during the 2012 primary election.  Vickery says he’s being encouraged by retiring Circuit Clerk Joe Carey.  Vickery says he has the administrative experience to do the job.

Milling and resurfacing to begin on Rt 23 Monday

Get ready for road construction on Route 23 in Streator.  Crews will be resurfacing the road and redoing the sidewalk ramps from East Grove Street to the Vermilion River south of town.

Work is scheduled to begin Monday.  Streator Asphalt is the company that’s been hired to do it for just less than $2.5 million.  It’s expected to be completed by the end of November.

Peru Man Officially Charged With Trying To Kill Teenage Girl

A man accused of stabbing a girl in Peru has been indicted for attempted 1st degree murder and aggravated battery.

29 year old Richard Vazquez of Peru is accused of stabbing a 15 year old girl from Iowa last month.  The girl was sent to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria for treatment.

Vazquez was injured when he allegedly jumped through a window trying to run from police.   He was caught without incident in La Salle.

Vazquez is being held on 250 thousand dollars bond.

Local Man Gets Arrested Twice In Same Night

Getting arrested twice in an hour and a half is unusual but a man from Mendota pulled it off.

Jose Deleon was arrested just after one o’clock for disturbing the peace by Mendota Police.  He was released at that point with a court date.

An hour and a half later, Mendota Police arrested Deleon again for obstructing a police officer and resisting a peace officer.  He was held at the Mendota Police Department.

Area Town Contemplating Golf Cart Ordinance

Get ready to share the roads in Seneca with golf carts.

The Seneca Village Council has put on file an ordinance allowing golf carts to be driven on roads with a maximum speed limit of 35.  They can’t go past 20 miles per hour themselves and must only be driven from daylight to dark.

Golf cart drivers will have to pay a yearly 50 dollar license fee and have liability insurance.  Drivers must be older teenagers and adults.

The ordinance could officially be passed at the August 17th board meeting.

Granville Celebrates 175 years

175 years of existence is reason for celebration.

The village of Granville is having a 175th birthday celebration tonight thru Saturday.  Things start tonight in Hopkins Park at 6 with a Miss Granville Pageant.  There’s also a movie in the park.

Activities Friday include a cruise night, fish fry, food vendors, petting zoo and live music.  Saturday will be water fights, softball tournament and the festival parade at 1 featuring 96.5 the Wolf’s Cowboy.

Cowboy will start broadcasting from Granville Saturday at 12:30 on 99.3 WAJK.
