Topinka launches pet adoption program

Posted by wlpo on July 9, 2011

CHICAGO (AP) – Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka adopted all three of her dogs at shelters, and now she’s trying to help find homes for other shelter animals.

Topinka is launching “Comptroller’s Critters,” a program that allows state animal shelters to showcase adoptable pets on the comptroller’s web site.

Potential owners can then contact the shelters to get information on adoptions.

The program is open to all Illinois shelters. Topinka says more than 50 have already signed on.

She’ll officially announce the program at an event in Chicago on Sunday.
