Posted by wlpo on July 7, 2011

An investigation into heroin in Peru has a man from Oglesby facing a felony drug charge.

In April, officers had a reason to think Jose Hernandez’s car had heroin in it and began watching the car.  Hernandez was later stopped and searched.  Police say they found a small amount of heroin but didn’t charge Hernandez until after it was sent to a crime lab.

A La Salle County warrant was issued last month for his arrest and he was arrested Thursday by sheriff’s deputies.  He was being held in the county jail with his bond set at $10,000.

A meth arrest in Bureau County involves a health scare for a deputy.

A Bureau County deputy and another person were checked out for exposure to anhydrous ammonia after they opened a cooler investigators say was thrown from a car stopped by Walnut Police.  Tri-Dent was called in and determined the cooler is linked to Shane Walters producing methamphetamine.
