Sheridan man killed during head-on crash

A head-on crash in Mission Township killed a man from Sheridan and injured another.

It happened at about 6:30am Friday.  Investigators think a car heading north crossed into oncoming traffic and hit 46 year old Gregory Johnson head-on.  Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the other car was taken to Ottawa Regional Hospital.  That person’s name and condition haven’t been made available yet.

The accident is under investigation.

Team offers cookout as Relay fundraiser

Get something to eat and your windshield washed all in one stop at a fundraiser in Peru.

The Wild Walkers Relay for Life of Upper Illinois Valley team will be pumping gas and washing windshields while hosting a grill-out lunch.  They’ll also have homemade fudge and cookies on sale from 10AM until 2 PM Saturday at Sapp Brothers in Peru.

Change in staff for Oglesby medical office

A medical office in Oglesby has gained two new staff members.   Dr. Bharat Puchakayala and certified family nurse practitioner Anna Freeman will be seeing patients at the IVCH Oglesby Medical Clinic.

Puchakayala is board-certified in the practice of internal medicine.  Freeman has extensive experience with infants, children and young adults.

Drs. Charles and Cynthia Running had been at the clinic since it opened in 2007 but they’re moving to Wisconsin.

The clinic will also have different hours.

Man Hurt In Naplate Sand Pit

Police think a man may have broken his arm after leaping into a U.S. Silica sand pit near Naplate.

Blake Miller was taken to Ottawa Regional Hospital Thursday afternoon after police and fire crews responded to the sand pit.  Officials say Miller took off running to the sand pit after police were responding to an alleged domestic issue involving him earlier in the day in Ottawa.

Miller could face charges.

Alcohol Related Crash Hurts Two Local Men

A pickup rollover near Somonauk injured two men from the area.

DeKalb County Sheriff deputies say Joshua Ernat of La Salle was on Chicago Road when he looked at his GPS, causing him to lose control of his truck.  He drove into a ditch and rolled the truck twice before stopping in an open field.

Ernat and his passenger Connor Mcnamara of Oglesby were taken to Valley West Hospital.  A second passenger, Martin Mcnamara of Oglesby wasn’t hurt.

Ernat was arrested for driving drunk along with failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.  He was taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

Get tickets to Trace Adkins today and save yourself some cash.

Tickets to the latest Lou’s La Grotto “Concert for a Cause” are now on sale for 42 dollars.  If you wait to buy a ticket when the gates open Saturday at 4, you’ll pay 50 dollars.  Proceeds from the Adkins and Eric Church show are benefiting Van Orin School.

Opening act Logan Mize will start things off by taking the Peru Airport stage at 5.  You can bring blankets to sit on, but no chairs.
