Cottage Cheese Burns In Princeton Semi Fire

Posted by wlpo on June 20, 2011

A semi carrying cottage cheese burned up near Princeton.

Princeton and Sheffield firefighters were called out to the eastbound rest area on Interstate 80 late Monday morning for the semi fire.  As they battled the blaze, state police and IDOT dealt with interstate traffic near the scene.  The fire was put out shortly after noon.

Princeton Fire Chief John Petrakis says the semi’s cab, trailer and freight are a total loss.  The cab and trailer are valued at 350 thousand dollars.  Petrakis says finding a cause of the fire will be difficult due to the damage.

The semi was owned by a man from California.

Oglesby May Leave IVAC

Posted by wlpo on June 20, 2011

The Oglesby City Council is weighing its options when it comes to the Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce.

When it came time to pay monthly bills, the council paid everything but a 49 hundred dollar membership fee with IVAC.  Mayor Don Finley says he wants to look and see if they’re gaining anything by sticking with IVAC.  He says the chamber was big in getting the enterprise zone going in town but nothing much is happening with it now.  Finley says the council could talk more about its IVAC membership at a special meeting Monday night.

The La Salle City Council opted out of IVAC last year.

Blagojevich Jurors Back At It

Posted by wlpo on June 20, 2011

CHICAGO (AP) – Jurors have resumed deliberating on the fate of Rod Blagojevich.

Today is the six day that jurors who sat through Blagojevich’s corruption retrial have discussed the evidence. They went home last Thursday after sending a note to the judge asking for help in how to assess ten wire fraud charges. Most of those counts relate to allegations the impeached governor sought to sell or trade President Barack Obama’s vacated U.S. Senate seat.

The judge sent a note back to jurors telling them they should look at their jury instructions again and then send another note if they still need help.
