Conservation award

Posted by wlpo on June 19, 2011

A Farm Journal award winner from Grand Ridge will be receiving a local honor in late July. John Thomas of Grand Ridge will receive the LaSalle County Conservation Farm Family of the Year award at the district’s summer picnic. Over thirty years, Thomas rotates mostly corn and soybeans and utilizes waterways, sediment control basins, habitat buffers, food plots and no-till planting in five townships. The Grand Ridge man, who raises cattle, was recognized by Farm Journal in 2009 for a twin row corn planter he built. His late wife, Sheila was a 4-H coordinator in LaSalle County. Thomas will receive the LaSalle County Conservation District award at Mendota High School July 28th.
