Youth Service Bureau to take on Catholic Charities cases

Posted by wlpo on June 16, 2011

Foster care services in the Rockford will soon be overseen by the same agency that looks over 1200 cases in La Salle and Bureau Counties.

Youth Service Bureau of the Illinois Valley will take the cases currently being handled by Catholic Charities, Diocese of Rockford.  The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services announced the changes Thursday.

Nan Butler is the Development Director for YSB.  She says it’s big undertaking thought the families shouldn’t experience any changes.

Catholic Charities is ending their adoption and foster services because they don’t want to comply with the state law that allows same-sex couples and unmarried opposite couples to have a civil union.

Butler says on July 1 the 58 caseworkers for Catholic Charities will become employees of Youth Service Bureau.
