No public meeting for La Salle County hog farms

Posted by wlpo on June 14, 2011

With neighbors okaying the idea, there won’t be a public meeting about hog farm expansion in La Salle County.

The La Salle County Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to bypass a public meeting and tell John and Katie Hagenbuch of Utica to start building a new hog farm near Triumph and expand their existing one in Waltham Township.  Katie Hagenbuch told the board if they would’ve delayed construction by holding a meeting, the hog farms wouldn’t be ready this year and the county would lose out on the tax dollars.

La Salle County Farm Bureau President Monte Whipple says time is money and told the board to get out of the Hagenbuch’s way and let them move forward.  The Hagenbuch’s have already received the go ahead from the department of agriculture.

When finished, the Hagenbuch’s two farms can house up to 4800 hogs.
