Peru PD to receive money from airport seizure

Posted by wlpo on June 11, 2011

The Peru Police Department Drug account will be receiving a big boost.  A portion the cashed seized during an investigation in March at the Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru has been forfeited.

Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei says nobody filed a court claim for the $570,000 so the money was forfeited this week.

The cash will be split between law enforcement and the States Attorney’s office.  $370,500 go to the Peru Police Department Drug account.  Bernabei says money from that fund can be used for the enforcement of drug laws.

As for the investigation, nobody has been arrested.

Rep. Kinzinger says Congress needs to “get government out of the way”

Posted by wlpo on June 11, 2011

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama is using his weekly media message to ask for patience while the economy recovers. He says the recession didn’t happen overnight and won’t end that way either.

Obama says training workers for manufacturing jobs despite declines in that sector will help put the economy on a path toward growth along with other steps, such as providing students with a quality education and investing in new jobs in the clean energy sector.

Meanwhile, Republicans are pointing to 9.1 percent unemployment as evidence something different needs to be done to create jobs. In the GOP’s weekly address, Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois says Congress needs to “get government out of the way,” by reducing debt, simplifying the tax code and limiting regulations. He also says Washington needs to pass free-trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea, and boost domestic energy production.  Kinzinger’s district includes Peru, La Salle and Ottawa.
