A statue about hard labor could be unveiled on Labor Day this year in Ottawa.
Artist Bill Piller of Mendota has finished a life-size bronze statue of a “radium girl”. Before it takes its place at a memorial in Ottawa, the statue has to go to a foundry and be casted in bronze. Fundraising efforts also continue to landscape the area where the statue is going to be stand.
Piller was given 40 thousand dollars by the city thru fundraisers for the statue. The woman in the statue is holding flowers in one hand and paintbrushes in the other.
Many women working at a Radium Dial factory in Ottawa died from radium poisoning.
