Use proposed for dog tag money

Posted by wlpo on April 12, 2011

After collecting extra dog tag fees since last January, La Salle County officials appear ready to spend the money.

The county’s animal control committee met Monday and is leaning towards splitting the dog tag revenues between Illinois Valley Animal Rescue and Pet Project.  The idea is the two shelters would use the money to cover spaying and neutering costs of adopted cats and dogs.  There is $29,000 in the dog tag fund right now.

Committee Chairman Matt McLaughlin says he’s invited Pet Project and IVAR officials to their next meeting.  The county already gives these two shelters 15 hundred dollars a year between the two of them.
