Focus Turns To Illinois River For Missing Marseilles Woman

Posted by wlpo on April 2, 2011

The search continues for a Marseilles woman last seen March 18th.

Members with Ottawa River Rescue today are searching the Illinois River for 43-year old Susan Schultz.  The search Friday focused on Illini State Park.

Marseilles Police Chief Jim Hovious says surveillance video from a downtown business caught a woman he thinks could be Schultz walking south across the bridge just after midnight March 19th.  Schultz is described as five foot six, weighing 200 pounds with brown hair and glasses.

Investigators are concerned because Schultz has a history of mental and physical disabilities.  She also has diabetes and would be in need of insulin.

Hovious doesn’t think Schultz is anywhere besides Marseilles since she has no car, cell phone or credit cards.

Massive Tree Planting In Ottawa

Posted by wlpo on April 2, 2011

The process of planting nearly one thousand trees in Ottawa begins Monday.

In 2009, Ottawa received a 337 thousand dollar grant to plant trees along state highways.  Starting tomorrow, a contractor will begin positioning the new trees along Route’s 6 and 23.  The trees include several types of shade trees and ornamentals.  The planting will last all the way thru Mid-May.

City officials say the bid for these trees came in under estimate so they have money left over to plant more trees next year.

Local Flavor To Cubs Opening Day

Posted by wlpo on April 2, 2011

Pre-game festivities at Wrigley Field Friday had plenty of local representation.

Just before actor Robert Redford threw out a ceremonial first pitch, Brendan, Dan and Heather McAlvey of Walnut took the mound and threw a pitch to Cub pitcher Kerry Wood.

Minutes later, Utica firemen Tom and Ben Brown were among a group presenting the national 9-11 flag during the national anthem.  The Brown’s were joined by Chicago Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel in the Wrigley Field outfield.
