talent retention workshop

results of “Song for Our Babies”

Success and entertainment at the “Song for Our Babies” event Saturday night at Peru Eagles Lodge. Lori Christopherson with our local “March of Dimes” office said 65-hundred dollars was raised. A “Michael Jackson” presentation reportedly was a big hit with the audience.

sleeping man in burning car

An unusual twist for Oglesby police told of a motorist passed out in Garzanelli’s parking lot. Someone called police about 1am Sunday to report the motorist was in a car apparently on fire. An officer stated he found 43-year old Randall Patterson of rural Oglesby in the driver seat with his foot pressed down on the accelerator. Patterson was not injured and Oglesby firemen came to extinguish a fire underneath the car. Patterson later failed field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI. He posted bond

He came through the bedroom window

What would you do if someone was trying to climb through your bedroom window? 35-year old Brian Edward Persinger was arrested at 3am Friday by Streator police for doing just that. It happened in the 800 block of North Everett in Streator. Persinger was arrested for criminal trespass to a residence. He posted one hundred dollars bond, given a court date and was released.

Shannon children benefit today

A fatal car crash in December becomes a missing person case that got media attention nationwide.  Now, persons in the Ransom area are stepping up to show concern for the children of Dale and Tanya Shannon. A benefit will be held today at 1pm at Jerry’s Tap in Ransom.  Live and silent auctions,  raffles, food and three bands.  Tickets are ten dollars each.  The proceeds will assist 15-year old Brittany,  10-year old Mackenzie, seven year old Emileigh and five year old Sammie.  Financial donations can also be dropped off at Bakelite Credit Union and First Federal Savings in Ottawa.

Heart dance results

Disaster and the Red Cross normally go hand-in-hand, one exception being last night. The fifth annual Have a Heart Dance and Auction Dinner and Auction was anything but a disaster. Illinois Valley Chapter Executive Direct Sarah Stasik says after the sponsorships, tickets sales and live auction they had raise 55 thousand dollars, a total that was expected to grow. She expects to have a more accurate total Monday. And even as the guest snacked on food and placed bets in the live and silent auctions, they mission wasn’t forgotten. The dance was sponsored by the Miller Group Charitable Trust. Miller Group Media includes AM 1220 WLPO, 99-3 WAJK, 96-5 the Wolf, The Newstribune and AgriNews.
