Peter and the Wolf to be performed by IVSO

A story told through music and narration will feature some of the areas most talented young musicians.

The Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra performs the classical children’s symphony Peter and the Wolf Sunday at LP High School.

Winners of the symphony’s Young Performers Competition will also be performing solos.  Illinois Valley Community College music professor, Norm Angstrom, will be the narrator.

The concert is 3pm Sunday in the auditorium.  Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students with ID.

Adkins and Church concert tickets go on sale April 1

Something for country music fans and something for kids will be arriving at the airport in Peru this summer.

This year’s Concerts for a Cause series brings Trace Adkins and Eric Church to the Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru.  It’ll be held on June 25.  Tickets go on sale April 1.

The second show headlines Big Time Rush on August 13.  A music event is being planned for September.

The concerts are put together by Merry Noonan of Lou’s LaGrotto.  They’re sponsored by La Salle County Broadcasting which includes 96.5 The Wolf, 99.3 WAJK, and AM 1220 WLPO.

Items stolen from cars in Streator

A sign that spring is arriving: ne’re-do-wells have left their homes to steal things out of cars.

Several cars were broken into during the midnight hour Wednesday in Streator.  It happened in the 1200 block of James Street and the 1100 and 900 blocks of South Otter Creek.

A G.P.S. and a radar detector were stolen from one car.  A wallet was stolen out of another car.  A third car had a cosmetic bag, a bunch of CD’s and keys stolen out of it.

No one’s been arrested.

Art show focuses on motorcycles

Are motorcycles art?  An exhibit which opens at the Prairie Arts Center in Princeton tonight centers on the chosen ride of rebels.

“Vroom – The Art of the Motorcycle” views motorcycles as art.  The opening reception is from 5-7pm Friday and is free and open to everyone.

The show runs through April 17th.  The gallery will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 PM and Wednesdays from 6-8 PM.

Second man arrested for rural Sheridan break-in

A second man has been arrested for residential burglary after a break-in that left one person shot.

In January, La Salle County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a home in rural Sheridan after a man shot at one of two men who he says were trying to break-in.

Bryan McQuinston of Somonauk was arrested Thursday.  The man who was shot, Kevin Kuhns of rural Triumph was arrested when he was released from the hospital.  He faces the same charge and has been released after posting bond.

Meanwhile, McQuinston was taken to the county jail with his bond set at $200,000.
