TEA party meeting 3-22

State Senator Sue Rezin is among the guest speakers for the Bureau-LaSalle TEA Party forum March 22 at IVCC. Mike George of “Strong America Now” and Kim Maisch, State Director of the National Federation of Business will discuss state taxation’s effect on business and individuals and methods of eliminating waste in government and companies. Additional speakers may be added. The start time of the meeting is 7pm, March 22 at IVCC.

ONYX second anniversary Wednesday

ONYX – Ottawa Network of Young executives will celebrate its second anniversary at 5pm Wednesday inside JJ’s Pub in Ottawa. Ottawa young professionals will serve as guest bartenders and the public is welcome to attend – regardless of age. ONYX members will be on hand to discuss upcoming activities and community involvement. ONYX accepts members from any work background who are between the ages of twenty-two and forty.

Local farmer going on trip

At first glance, the trip David Meyer is taking might look like a vacation – however, Meyer would call it a “Marketing Study Tour”. The LaSalle County Farmer and County Farm Bureau secretary is leaving March 8 for a week long trip thru New Orleans and into Panama and Columbia. He’ll be joined by twenty some Farm Bureau members from other counties. The goal of the trip is to examine the impact of proposed free trade agreements with Panama and Columbia. Meyer, from rural Marseilles also serves on the Junior Fair Board.

Flood warning / advisory on Illinois River

The Illinois River is above flood stage at LaSalle and nearly a foot and a half below flood stage at Ottawa. At 3:45am Sunday at LaSalle, the river was at 21.5 feet and rise to 22.6 feet Monday afternoon before beginning to subside. A Flood warning is currently in effect at LaSalle while an advisory has been issued for Ottawa. The reading at 3:45am Sunday there wa 461.4 feet. The Illinois is expected to rise to 462.4 Sunday evening which threatens the Allen Park entrance and submerges the West boat ramp. The advisory at Ottawa will continue until Wednesday afternoon.

Teens jailed on burglary charges

Three area teens remain jailed on burglary charges. 17 year old Joshua Bostick of La Salle and 19 year old Timothy Wheeler of Utica face two counts of burglary. 18 year old Jacob Wheeler of Utica is charged with one count. Bostick and Timothy Wheeler are accused of burglarizing a pickup and Double M Trucking in La Salle back in January. Jacob Wheeler is accused of being a part of the trucking company burglary. All three teens are being held on 20 thousand dollars bond.

mobile home taxes due

Happy tax season yet again! Mobile home tax bills in La Salle County are being mailed out Monday. The due date for mobile home taxes is May 10th. The penalty for late mobile home taxes is 25 dollars a month beginning the day after the due date. You can mail or deliver a check to the La Salle County Treasurer. A payment drop box is in the east parking lot at the Etna Road Government complex in Ottawa.

car and building collision

A two car collision Saturday in LaSalle results in no injuries and a building being struck. 34-year old Melissa Rogers told LaSalle police she stopped facing south at First and Tonti about 10pm. She pulled forward and apparently failed to see an eastbound vehicle driven by 80-year old Clement Jasiek of LaSalle. After the crash, Rogers car continued forward damaging the exterior of a building owned by Shawn Micheli at 1006 First Street. There were no injuries reported. Rogers was ticketed by LaSalle police.
