Man Gets Prison In Streator Child Porn Case

A federal judge in Chicago has sentenced a 47-year-old man to more than 33 years in prison for manufacturing
child pornography in Streator.

Richard Fleming pleaded guilty last year, and Judge Robert Gettleman sentenced him Friday. Defense attorney Mike Clancy, calls the sentence for Fleming “harsh but reasonable.” Prosecutors accused the former Texas man of traveling to Streator in 2001 to produce images of a boy engaged in sexually explicit acts.

He allegedly traveled to Streator again in 2003 to produce images of two other boys.

School Libraries Get Funding Boost

Over a dozen school libraries in La Salle County are getting grants from Jessie White’s office.

The Secretary of State is dishing out over a million dollars to 679 school districts for things like new library materials, library subscriptions to electronic resources, and improved technology.

Ottawa Elementary is getting the largest grant locally at 15 hundred dollars followed by a 14 hundred dollar grant for the Streator Elementary School District.  Among the area high schools, L-P’s library grant is 875 dollars, Ottawa High is getting a thousand dollars, Streator 716 dollars, and Mendota High will receive 450 dollars.

Other schools getting grants are Earlville and Leland school districts and Mendota, Oglesby, Wallace, and Peru elementary districts.

Child Abuse Arrest In Somonauk

Felony child abuse charges for a man from Somonauk.

DeKalb County deputies say they initiated a sex abuse investigation Wednesday and arrested James Wilson Friday.  He’s charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.  Wilson’s alleged victim is a child under 13 years old.

Wilson was taken to the DeKalb County Jail.
