Local clothing retailers have noticed the rise in prices

Posted by wlpo on February 25, 2011

The price of gasoline isn’t the only thing that’s increasing.  Cotton prices have more than doubled over the past year and the price of other synthetic fabrics has also increased.

Kathy Walter is an owner and manager at Men’s Emporium in downtown La Salle.  She says fashion designers are responding by using cotton blends but people will still want cotton.

Walter says the customers haven’t noticed because people haven’t started shopping for spring and summer clothing yet.

One block away is Kelly Cawley’s Boutique.  Owner-operator Kelly Cawley says they’re going to bite the bullet and get through it because they still need to offer 100% cotton.

People in the clothing industry think the rise in prices will be about 10%.
