Flood warning continues for the Illinois River near La Salle

The Illinois River is just over flood stage at La Salle.  Minor flooding will affect some of the fields near the river this week.

The National Weather Service says the river will continue to rise until Tuesday morning.  It’s expected to fall back below flood stage Thursday afternoon.

There’s a flood advisory for the Illinois River near Ottawa and the Fox River near Dayton.

Weight limit ordinance to be discussed in La Salle

The La Salle City Council won’t be taking Presidents’ Day off.  A weight limit ordinance and bids for a way of heating the gutters at City Hall are two of the things they’ll talk about.  The council meets at 7pm Monday.

Monday is Presidents’ Day

Because Monday is President’s Day, some government services won’t be available.  Monday is a postal holiday.

The Spring Valley City Clerks office will be closed though many others will be open.  Your garbage service should be picked up as usual.

Evans retires from Seneca H.S.

An area coaching legend has decided to retire as principal. Doug Evans will retire as principal at Seneca High in June. He’s been principal at Seneca High since 1996. Evans led the boy’s basketball team to a state title in 2006 before retiring from coaching after the 2008-2009 season. The Seneca School Board plans to take at least a month before naming a new principal.

plenty of tickets for driver

About 10:48pm Saturday, LaSalle police stopped 22-year old Froilan Gracia of LaSalle handing him ten tickets. Charges included obstruction of an officer, DUI, attempted fleeing and eluding, no valid license, no insurance, Illegal transportation, speeding, improper lane usage, failure to signal and no seatbelt.

head-on accident

A head-on collision two miles north of Grand Ridge and both drivers refused medical treatment afterwards. LaSalle County Sheriff’s office said 34-year old Kenneth Murphy of Streator was southbound on Route 23 about 12:45pm Saturday. Sheriff’s deputies say Murphy’s car crossed the center line and crashed head on with a vehicle driven by 41-year old Annette Phillips of Grand Ridge. Murphy was cited for no valid drivers license, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Bloodmobile schedule change

A reminder if you donate blood at the Red Cross in Peru. The Illinois Valley Red Cross is switching this week to its new schedule. Bloodmobiles will be held on Tuesdays during the month.
