World War II Memorial scale model coming to La Salle

Posted by wlpo on February 8, 2011

You won’t need to visit Washington D.C. to see a version of the World War II Memorial.  The original scale model created by the monument’s architect will be on display at the La Salle VFW in April.

Elton Murphy is the Commander of the VFW Post 4668.  He says he heard about the model last October and contacted the group that keeps the model, Pillars of Honor.  After a visit to the La Salle post, the group agreed the space was large enough for a presentation.

Murphy says they want to attract World War II veterans.  WWII vets would be able to reserve seating and have their names listed in a program.

Murphy thinks the model will attract people from across the state and Wisconsin.

The model will be at the La Salle VFW post on April 2 and 3.  World War II veterans are being asked to reserve a seat by getting a form at the VFW or online.

Veterans wishing to make reservations online can visit www.pillarsofhonor.org.

You can hear more by listening to an interview with Murphy.  It’s available on the news page.
