Crews respond to La Salle house fire

Posted by wlpo on February 8, 2011

A house in La Salle is a total loss after a fire ripped through it Tuesday afternoon.

La Salle Fire Chief Andy Bacidore says the blaze possibly started after a man used a torch in an attempt to thaw frozen pipes in the basement.

He says when they arrived a man was in the yard and a woman on the front porch with flames and smoke behind her.  She was helped down from the porch.  Both were taken to the hospital to be examined.

Two dogs were also in the home.  One made it out on its own while the other was removed by firefighters and needed to be revived using a special animal oxygen mask.  The dog was later taken to a veterinarian by Newstribune reporter Matt Baker.  As of Tuesday evening, the dog was recovering.
