The oldest living member of Easy Company, the U.S. Army unit from World War II portrayed in the HBO miniseries “Band of Brothers,” has died at age 94. A funeral home confirmed that Ed Mauser died Friday in Omaha. He was born in LaSalle.

crash changes Fieldcrest schedule

Two teens were killed when the truck they were in collided with a school bus carrying a high school basketball team to a tournament. The McLean County coroner says an 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old female died after yesterday’s crash. Two others in the truck were also injured, as were eight members of the team and an adult. Due to the tragic accident, the Tremont at Fieldcrest Varsity, frosh-soph boys basketball game scheduled for this Tuesday has been postponed. It will be made up later. At this time, no decision has been made on the girls Varsity, Fros-Soph games for Thursday between Tremont and Fieldcrest.

Kinzinger stops

Newly-elected Congressman Adam Kinzinger is coming home to talk to you. The 11th District Representative has scheduled seven town hall meetings in the next couple weeks. Locally, He’ll be at the Minonk City Hall January 29th from 10 until 11. On February 2nd, he’ll stop at the Prouty Building in Princeton from 5:35 until 6:30 and then hit the Ottawa City Hall that night from 7:30 until 8:30. Kinzinger says “accessibility and service to residents of the Eleventh District is his office’s top priority”.

Tanya Shannon Toxicology testing

Investigators are still waiting for toxicology results of 40-year old Tanya Shannon of Ransom. A few weeks ago, La Salle County Coroner Jodi Bernard said Shannon died from exposure to the cold. Her body was found earlier this month nearly a mile away from a crash scene that killed her husband Dale. Toxicology reports for Dale Shannon showed his blood alcohol level to be more than three times the legal limit when the couple crashed in Brookfield Township December 5th.

Bald Eagle watch

The stars are on hand and so will the audience during the second day of “Bald Eagle” Watch. The 14th annual event is at Starved Rock Lodge and the Illinois Waterway Visitors Center from 9 – 5 today (Sunday). Both sites have numerous presentations spotlighting various birds, Asian carp, kids’ games and Native American dancing. Programs are free. The bald eagle count from Saturday, according to a volunteer at the Waterway Visitors’ Center was 75.
