State Moving Ahead With Vermilion River Re-opening
Posted by wlpo on January 22, 2011
The push continues to reopen the Vermilion River in Oglesby to recreation.
The state accepted bids yesterday on safety improvements to the low-head dam where a drowning happened that led to Buzzi Unicem closing off its stretch of the river because of liability issues. A company from Tremont has submitted the lowest bid for the dam work at 160 thousand dollars.
DNR officials have said they hope to have the stretch of river ready for kayakers, rafters and canoeists this year.
